Pertapis religious teacher jailed three weeks for ill-treatment
Muhammad Abdul Gani, a religious teacher from Pertapis Children's Home at Kovan Road, was jailed three weeks on Tuesday (Oct 13) for ill-treating children at the home.
Muhammad, 27, had earlier pleaded guilty to four charges of abusing eight children aged four to 11.
He faced 10 charges of ill-treating five boys and three girls between 2012 and January last year.
The incidents came to light after a former employee at the home reported the matter to the Child Protection Services (CPS) of the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
The whistle-blower revealed certain employees had meted out inappropriate punishment to children during religious lessons, prayer times and volleyball activities.
