A pub employee took a customer's ATM card on the pretext of processing the bill and went to draw $6,000 from his bank account instead.

The employee had noted the victim's pin number and used the card to make several withdrawals at a nearby ATM.

The incident happened on May 4 at a pub in Orchard Road.

The customer made a report a week later saying someone had made unauthorised withdrawals from his account.

Police officers conducted extensive ground enquiries to identify the suspect.

The 25-year-old man was arrested in Bedok on Wednesday (June 24) at about 1.45pm.

He will be charged in court with theft on Friday (June 26).

If found guilty, he can be jailed up to three years and/or fined.
