Suspects in murtabak restaurant slashing taken to crime scene
Five men allegedly involved in a brutal attack on a murtabak restaurant worker were yesterday taken to the crime scene for investigations.
Joshua Navindran Surainthiran, 24, Joel Giritharan Surainthiran, 22, and Ramge Visvamnathan, 19, allegedly slashed Mr Liakath Ali's face, disfiguring him.
Two other Singaporeans - businessman Zackeer Abbass Khan, 45, and Anwer Ambiya Kadir Maideen, 46 - together with Indian national Koleth Navas, 29, are alleged to have abetted in a conspiracy to cause grievous hurt to Mr Liakath, 52, between Aug 22 and 26.
The incident was said to have happened on Arab Street at about 10pm on Aug 26.
SEVERAL LOCATIONS
Yesterday morning, Joshua, Joel and Ramge were taken to several locations, including a section of Rochor Canal near Sungei Road, where Joshua and Joel each spent about five minutes pointing out things to investigators.
The weapon used in the attack is believed to have been tossed into the canal.
Dressed in polo shirts, bermudas and slippers, the men were restrained at the hands and feet and wore face masks because of the haze.
When Joel got out of the police vehicle, he could be seen struggling and was heard swearing at waiting photographers.
Ramge did not leave the van at the canal.
Later in the afternoon, the older men, Zackeer and Anwer Ambiya, were taken to a coffee shop at Serangoon Avenue 2.
This is believed to have been the location where the attack was planned.
The men will next appear in court today.
