TNP New Face 2016: Sasha M
Sasha M, 26
Singer and freelance writer
Sasha recently quit her job as a manager in an e-commerce start-up to pursue her passion for music.
She has been singing for the past two years in vocal group SASS, which won the Grand Champion Senior Vocal Group of the World at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles in 2014.
Last year, for SG50, SASS released a single titled Sing Out Singapore, which charted on the local iTunes chart at No. 27.
Who do you look to for fashion tips?
Rihanna for her hairstyles. Jessie J and Demi Lovato for their impeccable dress sense. CL (from K-pop girl group 2NE1) for her versatility and overall cool vibe.
Actually, my style changes with my mood.
But in general, I love the edgy and fierce but feminine look. I also love having different hair colours.
What is your favourite place to go to in Singapore and why?
Haji Lane for its graffiti streets, eclectic knick-knack stores and laid-back clubs.
There is always good music around there and it is a great place to hang out with friends.
I am proud to tell my friends from overseas that Singapore has a cool place like Haji Lane.
What do you do to de-stress?
I give hugs. Another thing I enjoy doing is cooking myself a nice meal. Something with lots of protein - maybe a recipe I have not done before - some greens and a nice drink to go along with it.
Describe one interesting fact about yourself.
Do you know the belly button challenge? That weird time in human history when people discovered there were unusual creatures who could wrap their arms around their backs and touch their belly buttons from the other side? I am one of those creatures.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself performing my own music on an international stage with a great team of passionate and talented people, for audiences who know and love my work.
I also have an entrepreneurial spirit. If the opportunity arises, I hope to start a small online business of my own.
