Top 5 moments from Miss Universe Singapore 2016 finals
PERFORMANCE BY SEZAIRI
The local singer-songwriter took to the stage with a powerhouse performance of his original hit, Set Fire to The Floor, as the 15 finalists walked the runway in front of the crowd for the first time.
Later in the song, the finalists gathered behind the 2009 Singapore Idol winner and performed a 30-second choreographed dance.
He later returned to wow the crowd with two other songs, one of which was the hit single Crush by US Grammy-winner Usher featuring Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna.
Clad in two-piece swimsuits, the finalists, including Nikki Tay (below), made their individual walks down the runway as the judges scored them on criteria including confidence and fitness.
The finalists walked out and posed with several male models who were on the stage.
The finalists later went on stage in evening gowns designed by Indonesian designer Karla Jasmina, and jewellery by bespoke jewellery designer Eduardo Liem.
The finalists, especially those who were allocated body-hugging gowns, walked gingerly to avoid the possibility of tripping.
TOP 5 QUESTION AND ANSWER
Winner Cheryl Chou was the last to step up to the microphone, but she blew the crowd away with her eloquent answer.
The question posed was: What is the essence of a Singaporean woman? In her answer, Cheryl talked of confidence, bravery and being unafraid of failure.
Before each finalist was asked to answer their question, they each wore noise-cancelling headphones to make sure they were unable to hear their question beforehand.
TAKING THE CROWN
Cheryl - who also won subsidiary awards including Canon's Miss Photogenic and Beaute Hub's Miss Aspirational - held hands with Joeypink Lai and Luisa Gan, and all three had their eyes shut as the event's emcees, The Flying Dutchman and Glenn Ong, revealed the winner to thunderous applause.
Soon after, former Miss Universe Singapore winner Lisa Marie White placed the crown on Cheryl's head.
