Boy helps alert TNP about otters at fishing pond, another hurt in accident
Benjamin Phua, 12, had just finished his final PSLE paper on Tuesday when his father, 53-year-old retiree Andrew Phua, took him to Pasir Ris Park.
They saw otters climbing into D'Best Recreation, a commercial fishing pond at the park, much to Benjamin's excitement.
Said Mr Phua: "It was the first time he (Benjamin) had seen so many (otters) at one go."
The pair took a video of the otters at the park and sent it to The New Paper.
The report about the family of nine otters raiding D'Best Recreation over the past six months to feast on the fish was published last Friday and was the day's cover story.
Mr Darren Seng, who owns D'Best Recreation, had told TNP that the otters come almost daily and cost him $300 to $500 worth of fish each time.
On why he chose to tip the paper off, Benjamin said: "I saw a lot of articles about otters (in TNP)."

A report about a PSLE candidate was also published that day.
The caller, who declined to be identified, told TNP that a 12-year-old boy had been involved in a hit-and-run incident that forced him to miss two of his PSLE papers.
