A 62-year-old man was killed after his electric bicycle collided with a tipper truck along Cecil Street on Friday morning (Nov 18).

The man, a courier with Courier Circle Asia known to his friends as "Lao Chek" (Old Uncle in Hokkien), was pronounced dead by paramedics who arrived on the scene.

The police, who were informed about the accident at around 10.30am, arrested the truck driver, 54, for causing death by a negligent act.

Investigations are ongoing.

Another courier who knew "Lao Chek" and wanted to be known as Mr Lek was shocked by accident.

The 56-year-old told The New Paper: "I was running my errands when I saw a truck dragging an e-biker along the road.

"I went to investigate and was shocked to see that the victim was my friend. From his badly injured body, I knew he didn't survive the accident. I can't believe Lao Chek is gone."

Last month, two e-bikers were killed along West Coast Highway when a trailer hit them from behind, injuring a third.
