Art installations, workshops and other treats at art carnival
The Padang, more often associated with sports, will be a playground of more artistic activities this weekend.
From today to Sunday, visitors can enjoy interactive art installations, community art workshops and artisanal treats.
Called Share The Hope, the art carnival is part of the Opening Celebrations for National Gallery Singapore.
There are five spaces to discover the celebrations' themes.
Each theme is presented in a large tent and all the tents form a giant pentagon on the Padang.
WHAT TO EXPECT
TENT 1: FAMILY & COMMUNITY
Draw, Weave, Knot
5.30pm, 7.30pm, 9.30pm (30 minutes)
Explore the beauty of creating abstract forms in space with artist Tay Bee Aye using thread, yarn, and rope.
Looming Isles
6.30pm, 8.30pm, 10.30pm (30 minutes)
Create a tapestry (a form of textile art) of abstraction with artist Hazel Lim within the confines of a tent canopy.
TENT 2: FOOD & BEVERAGE
5pm to midnight
Foodies can indulge in a wide selection of delights inspired by popular South-east Asian dishes.
TENT 3: ADVERSITY & CONFLICT
From The Ground Up
5pm to midnight
An installation that immortalises the struggle and hope of survivors in the Bukit Ho Swee fire.
WWIID FOOD (Wild Food)
5.45pm, 7.15pm, 8.15pm (10 minutes)
In this installation simulating a wild jungle environment, lies edible plants that were key to the survival of guerrilla soldiers in World War II. Watch them forage for food after a hard day of fighting.
TENT 4: PASSION & LOVE
Room For All

Room For All is an interactive labyrinth that explores the range of human passions and interests.
The labyrinth encourages visitors to wander and encounter surprises through actions as familiar as eating and drawing.
Makan Memories
7.30pm, 8.30pm, 9.30pm (30 minutes)
Makan Memories extracts the fond memories associated with Singaporean dishes into a series of short monologues and playlets.
Empty Frames
Various timings
A series of choreographic works inspired by the Gallery's collection.
TENT 5: REBIRTH & PEACE
Edible Gardens

Venture into an immersive pop-up forest anchored by a 7m log centrepiece.
BUILDING FACADE
Share The Hope Facade Show

Share the Hope is a grand audio visual production inspired by the Gallery's collection, sponsored exclusively by Cartier.
For three nights only, be captivated by the displays of light, sound and visuals set against the backdrop of the newly transformed National Gallery Singapore.
Let's get moving
The Swift 2nd Gen motorised scooters from iZest are great for moving around quickly within crowded spaces.
The 14kg Israel-designed scooters come in three models - powered by 10.4 Ah, 15.6 Ah or 18.2 Ah lithium ion batteries:
- the 10.4 Ah battery-powered scooter can travel 30km to 35km on a single charge;
- the 15.6 Ah battery-powered scooter can travel 40km to 45km on a single charge;
