Got a tip-off? Call The New Paper
Over the years, The New Paper readers have alerted us to amazing stories, many of which made the front page.
Now that TNP is free and available to more readers, we hope they, too, can contribute story ideas.
Whether it's about interesting people and issues, or if you witnessed incidents like fires, accidents or a crime taking place, we encourage you to contact us with your tip-offs.
Below are examples of stories we have published thanks to our readers.
A TNP reader, who wanted to be known only as Madam Tan, was in the building next to the CK Building in Tampines when it caught fire on Aug 17.
The 59-year-old administrative clerk was with a group of colleagues during lunchtime when one of them saw smoke around 1.30pm. She immediately called the TNP hotline to alert us.
The fire was the largest industrial fire this year, with 110 firefighters activated to battle it for over more than 16 hours.
The report was published as TNP's cover story on Aug 18.
A loyal TNP reader of over 20 years alerted us to otter trouble at a Sentosa hotel. Mr Roshan, an analyst, 41, who uses the gym at the hotel, noticed fewer fish in the pond there over a period of six months. When he approached the staff at the hotel, he was told the fish were being killed by otters.
Over two weeks, TNP investigated the matter by visiting the hotel as well as Sentosa Cove homes.
We discovered that home owners there had lost many of their fish to otters, and that the hotel had lost about $85,000 worth of fish. The report was TNP's cover story on Aug 6.
For another caller, it was a matter of clearing his brother's name.
Facebook users had criticised Mr Abdu Manaf Al Ansari's brother, whose two-year-oldson had died after being abused by the brother's wife and her boyfriend. Mr Abdu Manaf called TNP to give his brother's side of the story and the report was published on the front page of TNP's June 28 edition.
If your tip-off is published, you will receive a $100 Texas Chicken voucher.
