Jail, cane for gravedigger who raped 12-year-old girl
A cemetery worker was jailed 15 years and ordered to be given 24 strokes of the cane on Monday (August 24) for raping and sexually violating a 12-year-old girl.
Roslan Jaafar, 42, had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one count of sexually violating her in April.
Even though the girl consented to having sex, it is considered rape as she was below 14 years old.
Court papers said that in 2012, the girl, her younger sister and her mother were living in a tent at the Lim Chu Kang Muslim cemetery, where Roslan worked as a gravedigger.
In May that year, he would take the girl with him, with the permission of her mother, to run errands. But it was during these errands that he made his sexual advances.
The offences came to light after the girl's uncle went through her phone one day and found incriminating texts from Roslan.
