Jail, cane for man who killed Vietnamese girlfriend in Ang Mo Kio flat
An odd job labourer was jailed on Monday (March 14) for killing his Vietnamese girlfriend in his Ang Mo Kio flat in November 2014.
Jackson Lim Hou Peng, 41, was sentenced to nine and a half years' jail and three strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty to one count each of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and drug consumption.
One other drug-related charge was taken into consideration for sentencing.
Court papers said Lim was hosting his girlfriend, Ms Tran Cam Ny, 32, at his Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 flat on Nov 20, 2014.
They were then in a relationship despite being married to other people.
After smoking methamphetamine in the early hours that day, Lim and Ms Tran got into an argument about money.
The dispute then became violent as Ms Tran and him began trading blows.
Lim went on to suffocate the hysterical Ms Tran, who was screaming, with a blanket and only stopped when she was motionless.
