Kallang Bahru rapist jailed 13 years, given 18 strokes of cane

A storeman who raped and robbed a woman in his car on a bridge along Kallang Bahru Road was jailed on Wednesday (May 27) for 13 years and given 18 strokes of the cane.
On Tuesday (May 26), after a seven-day trial, Haliffie Mamat, 24, was convicted of raping the then 34-year-old between 6.30 and 6.45am on May 4, 2013.
Justice Kan Ting Chiu also found him guilty of robbing the woman of a Louis Vuitton handbag, two mobile phones and about $300 in cash.
