Khoo Teck Puat shooting: Suspect could face death penalty
The suspect allegedly involved in Saturday night's shooting at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital will face the death penalty if found guilty of unlawful discharge of a firearm.
The 24-year-old Singaporean man will be charged in court with the offence on Monday, June 22.
Police said he was arrested for motor vehicle theft on Friday and was taken to the hospital the next day after he complained of chest pains.
He attempted to escape while inside an examination room but a police officer stopped him.
A struggle then ensued and he snatched the 31-year-old police officer's revolver.
Shots were fired before the suspect was subdued.
The suspect suffered superficial injuries while the officer suffered gunshot wounds to his left thumb and right foot.
The policeman was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and has since undergone surgery and is now in a stable condition.
