Kovan murders: Judgment on Dec 4
The judgment for ex-cop Iskandar Rahmat, the defendant in the Kovan double murder trial, has been set for Dec 4.
The prosecution argued in court on Monday (Nov 23), that Iskandar had always planned to kill car workshop owner Mr Tan Boon Sin.
In presenting the prosecution's closing submission, prosecutors said Iskandar's testimony contradicts the evidence presented.
The sheer number, severity and location of knife wounds on Mr Tan and his son, Mr Tan Chee Heong, showed Iskandar didn't just intend to rob the elder Mr Tan, but had planned to kill the man to silence him.
But defence lawyer Shashi Nathan maintained his client simply intended to steal Mr Tan's money and there was no plan to do anything more.
Had there been one, he would've parked his rented car closer to the elderly man's house at 14J Hillside Drive.
Furthermore, the plan wasn't perfect because if it were, Iskandar wouldn't have made that many mistakes along the way.
The defence lawyer urged Justice Tay Yong Kwang to acquit his client of murder with intention to cause death — which carries a mandatory death penalty — and to reduce it to a lesser charge.
