Lose weight for health, not looks
FROM READER ACE KINDREDZEN CHEONG
I congratulate Miss Fiona Tan for representing and making Singapore proud by winning the Ms Top of the World Plus Size 2016 title in Latvia last month.
I agree that it is important to accept and love and be proud of ourselves for who we are and how we look, as she argued in the report "S'porean make-up artist wins international pageant for plus-sized beauties" (The New Paper, June 29).
But is it healthy to be overweight? Obesity has been linked to a various illnesses and big-sized people have a higher risk of falling sick.
I have realised that it is good to lose weight, not because of looks or what others may think, but because it is healthier.
