Man charged with 'open fire' post against LGBT community
Bryan Lim Sian Yang was charged yesterday after allegedly asking for "permission to open fire" in a Facebook comment aimed at the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
Lim, 36, a consultant with a camera company, had allegedly posted the comment on the We are against Pinkdot in Singapore Facebook page on June 4.
He was charged with making an electronic record containing an incitement to violence.
Lim is believed to have said: "I am a Singaporean citizen. I am a NSman (sic). I am a father. And I swore to protect my nation. Give me the permission to open fire. I would like to see these £@€$^*s die for their causes.''
The court heard that electronic items belonging to Lim were seized by police on Wednesday.
Lim's lawyer, Mr Adrian Wee, confirmed the equipment had been taken.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Wong Woon Kwong had asked for a three-week adjournment for investigations to be completed.
Lim was offered $10,000 bail and will return to court on Aug 4.
If found guilty, he faces a maximum jail term of five years, a fine or both. - Zaihan Mohamed Yusof
