Top 20 contest finalists take part in Shape Run
The Top 20 New Paper New Face 2016 finalists braved the heat and made their debut group appearance at Shape Run 2016.
Emilbiany Nenggal Intong, 18, a Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts theatre student, even woke up at 6.30am to get a workout done before meeting her fellow finalists at Bayfront Event Space for the annual all-women's run, which saw 9,500 runners taking part this year.
Gabriella Choo, 19, an accounting and marketing student at University of London, Royal Holloway, with Kaplan Singapore, said: "I'm excited because it's our debut (as a group) and it's my first time joining a modelling competition."
The finalists were introduced by the emcee after the prize-giving ceremony and were interviewed in front of the audience.
Gernice Lee, 19, a food science and technology student at Singapore Polytechnic, told TNP she had not been that nervous about going on stage. "I've done fashion shows since I started modelling in February so being on stage in front of a lot of people is not that scary."
When asked if she was looking forward to the individual photo spreads of all 20 finalists in The New Paper next month, Hema Chandra, 17, a business management student at Nanyang Polytechnic, said: "We didn't get to see the pictures after the photo shoot so I'm excited to see how they'll look in the newspaper."
Sasha M, 26, a freelance writer and digital marketer, also said she has not felt the pressure of the competition because she feels all the finalists are "in this together".
Jolene Poon, 24, private tutor and robotics instructor, said she will keep copies of her photo spread to show her daughter in the future.
She said: "I want her to feel proud of me."
One of Singapore's top modelling competitions, The New Paper New Face is in its 24th year and past contestants include Instagram star and entrepreneur Velda Tan and actress Jayley Woo. This year's finals will be held on Sept 2 at Marina Square, at 7pm.
