NTUC, UniSIM to fund courses to train workers
Workers and bosses looking to boost their skills in select SIM University (UniSIM) courses can enjoy subsidies of up to half their course fees from next year.
UniSIM and the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) inked two agreements yesterday to fund and develop courses aimed at preparing workers for the future.
NTUC said it recognises the need to help workers learn new skills to meet demands of the labour market.
Under one agreement, the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) - NTUC's training and job placement arm - will work with UniSIM to develop programmes for professionals, managers, executives and technicians.
These courses will be eligible for the e2i Training Grant.
Those enrolled in the three UniSIM logistics courses under the scheme will get funding of up to half the $1,200 course fees from July 2017.
There are plans to extend this arrangement to other existing courses at UniSIM.
The other agreement will train bosses of small and medium enterprises in areas from fair labour practices to digital marketing.
Participants of the year-long Executive Development Programme, jointly developed by UniSIM and NTUC's U SME, will be given $1,890 to offset the $6,500 fees.
An English version of the programme, which started in October and is offered in Mandarin, will be rolled out in 2017. - THE STRAITS TIMES
