Train services on three MRT lines and one LRT line were disrupted during peak hours yesterday evening.

SMRT said its services were affected by a power trip at 7.53pm, causing services on the North-South, East-West, Circle Line and the Bukit Panjang LRT to be affected.

Services on the North-South and East-West lines resumed at 8.23pm, while trains on the Circle Line started running again at 9.20pm.

Services on the LRT line resumed at 9.47pm.

According to an SMRT Facebook post, the affected parts of the lines were Buona Vista to Joo Koon stations on the East-West Line, Jurong East to Kranji stations on the North-South Line and Caldecott to HarbourFront stations on the Circle Line. Except for emergency lighting, the affected stations were without power.

Four trains on the Bukit Panjang LRT were also stalled between stations and 150 passengers were asked to disembark, SMRT said. These passengers walked on the tracks to the nearest LRT station.

Free bus services were activated at 8.15pm.

The power trip that caused the disruptions was traced back to a power dip at the Buona Vista power intake station.

Netizens were abuzz about the train breakdowns, with some of those affected posting pictures and updates on social media platforms about being unable to get home during the busy rush-hour period.

All affected commuters can seek a refund of their fares within the next 14 days from Passenger Service Counters at MRT stations.
