Remote control car racing at Our Blocks Rock party

Don't want to go through the hassle of heading down to town to watch the F1 races this weekend?

Don't worry. If you are a Punggol resident, you can get your racing fix closer to home.

One of the activities in the fourth party in the Our Blocks Rock series will feature races using remote control cars.

These parties, organised by the People's Association Panel of Activists for Community Engagement and The New Paper, are hip and vibrant two-day events that will take place on selected weekends till December.

The races will be organised by Mr Wu Jing Wen of the Radio Control Cars interest group. The group was started by him and the Punggol North Community Sports Club.

A remote-control car demonstration will be held to teach everyone how to control the cars.

Residents will then be invited to try their hands with the remote controls.

It will be a one-on-one race on a three-lane track. The winner will awarded with a small token.

Mr Wu, 31, told the New Paper: "A lot of new families have their homes in Punggol.

"I want to let them know that there is such an interest group for their kids to participate within their constituency."

Joining the party tomorrow at 7pm to pump up the atmosphere will be the band PAssionate, which will perform acoustic songs, mostly in Mandarin.

The band consists of lead singer Tan Jing Ting, 22, drummer Benjamin Lee, 27, guitarists Elizabeth Loh, 22, and Jerry Wee, 34.

Ms Loh said: "Our practices have been going pretty well and I'm quite excited. We just want to make people happy and enjoy our music."

Wheelers on Watch, an interest group with Punggol North Community Emergency and Engagement Committee that patrols the neighbourhood on electric unicycles regularly, will be at the parties to share more about how they keep the neighbourhood safe.

WORKSHOP

Similar to last week's parties in Yew Tee, the Punggol North Balloon Sculpting Interest Group will conduct a workshop to teach residents how to create their own balloon sculptures.

And participants will have their hands full taking home their handmade creations.

Pokemon Go players can also get ready to beef up their Pokedex over the weekend.

The event, held at the basketball court beside Block 171C, Edgedale Plains, will activate lures to gather Pokemon and people at the area throughout the two days.
