Speed limiter tampering: 2 drivers caught
Two men, aged 41 and 47, will appear in court today for tampering with the speed limiter of their heavy vehicles.
They were travelling at 75kmh and 73kmh respectively, above the speed limit of 60kmh for both.
The 41-year-old will also be charged with not wearing a seat belt under the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Wearing of Seat Belt) Rules.
Motorists caught driving above the speed limit, driving a vehicle with a tampered speed limiter and/or driving without the use of a seat belt, face a fine of up to $1,000 or a jail term of up to three months, or both, for each offence.
Repeat offenders may be punished with a fine of up to $2,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both, for each offence.
The Traffic Police said it will be stepping up enforcement actions to deter and detect motorists who tamper with speed limiters, The Straits Times reported.
