Taxi driver dies a day after freak accident
He was supposed to celebrate his 60th birthday and Father's Day this weekend with his family.
Instead,they have been grieving.
Taxi driver Wang Jia Li, 59, died on Wednesday after an accident at Premier Taxi's headquarters at Changi South Avenue 2 the previous evening.
He was paying for petrol when his vehicle accelerated suddenly, Shin Min Daily News reported.
It is believed that his head and the right side of his body were trapped between his vehicle and the wall.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident at about 7.50pm.
SCDF officers manually freed Mr Wang and took him to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
His wife, Madam Mai Xiu Juan, told Shin Min that she was waiting for Mr Wang to return home when she received a call from her husband's company.
The 57-year-old clerk said: "By the time I rushed to the hospital, my husband was already brain-dead."
MARRIED FOR 30 YEARS
The couple met while working as apprentices at a factory and had been married for more than 30 years.
They have two daughters, aged 25 and 30.
Mr Wang was described as a good husband and father, and was well-liked.
His older daughter, Ms Wang You Hui, was supposed to get married at the end of the year.
But Ms Wang, who works in the dental industry, said she may postpone the wedding to next year.
