Three Singaporeans charged with extortion in kidnapping plot
Two women and a man were charged with extortion on Friday (Feb 26) for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of two Singaporean brothers.
Judy Ang Aye Fong, 52, Fong Ling Ling, 45, and Benjamin Ling Jialiang, 25, are each accused of attempting to extort US$250,000 (S$350,000) from Ms Crystal Lim between Feb 22 and Feb 24.
If she did not do so, they allegedly threatened to harm her fiance and his brother -- Mr Kenneth Ng and Mr Gabriel Ng - who had travelled to Penang on a business trip on Feb 21.
Singapore Police said in a press statement on Thursday night (Feb 25) they worked with their Malaysian counterparts, who raided a Penang hotel, arrested four Malaysians and rescued the two victims on Wednesday (Feb 24).
No ransom money was paid.
Police here also arrested four Singaporeans and three of them were charged in a district court on Friday morning (Feb 26).Investigations into the remaining suspect is ongoing, police said.
