Youth in trouble for sex with minor
She is 15 and he 20.
They knew sex with each other would land him in trouble with the law.
But she liked him a lot. And he?
He couldn't resist the temptation.
Yesterday, Muhammad Hafiz Mohamad Jamil, a full-time national serviceman, was sentenced to 21 months' probation for having sex with the girl, a student.
Hafiz had earlier pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual penetration of a minor.
Seven other similar charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.
They got to know each other through Twitter last year, the Community Court heard.
Some time in early April this year, they met at a staircase landing near the girl's home in the west, where she performed a sex act on Hafiz.
They tried to have sex but when it was unsuccessful, he sent the girl home.
TOILET
Later that month, they were at it again, in the male toilet of a community club in the west.
At the time, both knew that having sex with a minor under 16 is an offence.
But it did not stop them from engaging in sex on four separate occasions before being found out by the girl's mother about a month later, who made a police report.
During sentencing, Community Court Judge Lim Keng Yeow said the offences Hafiz had committed were serious, and that he could have been jailed many months for them.
But based on the probation officer's report, which recommended probation for Hafiz, the judge said he was willing to give the man another chance.
Under probation rules, he must stay at home between 10pm and 6am, and complete 130 hours of community service.
Hafiz's parents, who were in court with him, had to sign a $5,000 bond to ensure his good behaviour.
