Singaporean man drowns near island in Johor, found floating near shoreline

Search and rescue personnel are still looking for a foreign man believed to have drowned after being swept away by strong currents while swimming near Pulau Mawar in Endau.

The incident, which occurred at around 2.37pm on April 7, involved three adult male victims, said the local Fire and Rescue Department in a statement.

Senior operations commander Mohd Alias Hussin said one of the victims, a local man, managed to save himself.

"Another victim, a Singaporean national, was found unconscious and floating near the shoreline before being pulled to land by members of the public. He was later confirmed dead at the scene," he said.

Rescuers are still searching for the third victim, an Indian national.

The operation is being led by the Endau Fire and Rescue Station, with a team of seven personnel deployed using one Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) vehicle and a Hilux unit.

The team arrived at the location at about 2.56pm, approximately 20km from the station.

Search efforts are currently focused on the last known location of the missing victim using surface searching techniques.

Mr Alias added that the team is working closely with other relevant agencies and local volunteers to locate the missing man.

Meanwhile, Mersing police superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani confirmed the case and said the search operation is still ongoing.
