Snatch thief suspect nabbed at Jalan Bukit Merah in less than 24 hours

Police officers have arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly snatched a woman's handbag in Tiong Bahru.

The incident happened on Monday at 5.15am when the 39-year-old woman was walking along the flats at Moh Guan Terrace.

She gave chase but lost sight of the thief at Kim Tian Road.

Upon receiving the report, officers from the Central Police Division immediately conducted a search in the vicinity.

With the aid of police cameras and the descriptions provided by the victim, the officers managed to identify the attire worn by the suspect and retrieve an image of him.

Through extensive follow-up ground enquiries, the suspect was arrested at Jalan Bukit Merah on Tuesday (Jan 6) at 3am, less than 24 hours later.

The suspect will be charged in court on Wednesday (Jan 7).

If found guilty, he could be jailed up to seven years and caned.
