Threat against Tigerair forces Melbourne terminal to close for 8 hours
A threat "directed specifically at Tiger Airways" caused a domestic terminal at Melbourne Airport to be closed on Friday night (Jan 9).
Terminal 4, which is specifically for Tigerair, was closed and evacuated at 9pm after the alert was received.
Passengers on at least one Tigerair flight had to be moved from the plane on to buses.
“We are responding to a security alert that’s directed specifically at Tiger Airways at Melbourne Airport,” said a spokesman for the airport yesterday.
Authorities declared the airport safe just after 5am this morning (Jan 10), but passengers should expect disruptions on Tigerair flights to continue, reports the Herald Sun.
The spokesman said other airport operations had not been affected.
