Two passers-by nab snatch thief at Choa Chu Kang
A snatch thief was arrested at Choa Chu Kang on Monday night with the help of two passers-by.
The victim was using his mobile phone when the thief walked past him and snatched the device at about 11.30pm.
The man gave chase and shouted for help, stated a police press release on Tuesday.
The commotion attracted two passers-by, Mr Abdul Qaliff Rahim and Mr Sakiman Ishak, who also gave chase.
The duo caught the thief at Choa Chu Kang Ave 1 and detained him until the police arrived.
Stop crime spree
The suspect, a 24-year-old man, is believed to have been involved in other snatch theft cases.
He will be charged in court on Wednesday. If found guilty, he can be jailed for up to seven years and caned.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim said: "The two men did a good job to chase and detain the suspect and they will be commended for their public spirited effort.
"The suspect is believed to be involved in several other similar cases and his arrest has put a stop to his crime spree."
