'Vaping is not sigma': TikToker teaches Ong Ye Kung brain rot phrases
Mr Ong said that the TikToker's videos are "more effective" than his own.
A clip of a TikToker teaching Health Minister Ong Ye Kung brain rot phrases to discourage vaping has gone viral.
The term "brain rot" refers to internet slang for words or phrases considered low-value, silly, or of poor quality.
The clip has since amassed over 57,000 views.
'Vaping is not sigma'
Mr Ong thanked the TikToker, known online as Runner Kao, for his videos that raise awareness about vaping and other social issues, particularly those affecting the younger generation.
He added that the TikToker's videos are "more effective" than his own - noting that his content tends to resonate more with the older generation.
When Mr Ong asked him what message to convey to the youths, the TikToker replied: "Tell them vaping is not sigma", referring to the slang term for an independent and confident individual who does not conform to societal norms.
He added, "You farm zero aura by vaping. To the young people, aura is very important." In this case, "aura" refers to societal appeal or coolness.
Runner Kao added: "You are not lit if you vape. Vaping is not slay."
"Lit" is something exciting and fun, while "slay" refers to being impressive.
'Kpod zombie hunter'
According to his TikTok account, he is a social worker turned content creator, producing content that focuses on social issues, especially those affecting the younger generation.
He has been engaging directly with students to raise awareness about the negative impact of vapid and kpods in a style that resonates with Gen Alpha.
In one video, he referred to himself as the "kpod zombie hunter", and many of his clips show him visiting schools, common hang out spots, and MRT stations.
