Apathy or fear? Bystanders witness woman's assault without intervening
A video circulating on the r/SingaporeRaw subreddit depicts a disturbing incident where a man in a motorcycle helmet forcefully pushes a woman in a grey jacket to the ground.
Another individual, presumed to be his friend, stands by without intervening.
A second woman in a red shirt attempts to stop the aggressor, but he later returns to shove the first woman again.
The man then grabs an object, believed to be the woman's smartphone, and smashes it onto the floor.
The video, titled "Not helping", has sparked a wave of anger online - not just over the violence, but also the lack of action from bystanders.
One commenter sarcastically remarked: "His mother will say he was a good boy, would never do this to another person."
Another wrote: "He can continue to deliver food after his Changi stint."
A significant portion of the discussion centres around the apparent lack of intervention from bystanders.
One user noted: "The aggressor being able to do this in public with many people observing, and not having a single person stepping in to stop or pull him away, shows the kind of society and community we live in."
Another echoed this sentiment, stating: "We can only hope that the brave and bold will step forward whenever they witness injustice such as these."
But others were more understanding, pointing out that the fear of retaliation is real.
"Don't get me wrong - I want to help," wrote one commenter, "But if I step in, what can I do without risking being hurt myself?"
In response, others advised caution.
"Call the police. This type of people… even the so-called 'victim' would attack you instead if you interfere. It's their own internal problem," wrote one user.
At press time, it's unclear if the incident has been reported to the police or whether the woman intends to press charges.
