This article is more than 12 months old

A United Nations official broke down on camera after talking about the shelling of a United Nations school in Gaza that happened on Wednesday morning.

Chris Gunness, a spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), could not hold back his tears during an interview about the shelling with Al Jazeera Arabic.

At least 20 people were killed when Israeli airstrikes hit the UN-run school, which was used as a shelter for Palestinians in Gaza.

This is the sixth time a UNRWA site has been hit since Israel launched its offensive on July 8.

UNRWA blamed Israel artillery for the attack and condemned the shelling as a "source for universal shame".

About 1,300 Palestinians, and 56 Israelis have been killed so far.
