'Waiting for an accident to happen': Elderly man rides electric wheelchair on road

"Is he tired of living?" asked a Stomper.

An elderly man was caught on camera riding his electric wheelchair on the road instead of the footpath in Balestier on the morning of Oct 5.

Stomper Ut shared a video of the incident at 11.39am.

The wheelchair user can be seen riding across the bus bay of the bus stop in front of Giffard Mansion and stopping to wait for the traffic light to change at a pedestrian crossing.

When the light changed, the man wheeled across the road using the pedestrian crossing, but on reaching the other side, he eschewed the footpath and turned onto the road instead.

/ "Oh, no," said the Stomper.

"Is he tired of living? Waiting for an accident to happen. Then whose fault?"

Categorised as personal mobility aids by the Land Transport Authority, electric wheelchairs are not allowed on roads.
