Walmart sells Sony Playstation 4 for US$90 due to online scam
Walmart has a great policy for its customers - it promises to match low prices from other online retailers.
So when the company announced on Nov 13 that Amazon.com would be included in its price matching policy, some opportunists began creating fake but authentic looking pages that appeared to sell the US$400 (S$519) Sony Playstation 4 (PS4) for a mere US$90.
The scam was easily carried out because customers only needed to show cashiers at the counter a screenshot of the page to request for a price match.
As a result, on Wednesday (Nov 19), many customers reportedly walked away with the gaming console for just US$90.
However, Walmart was swift to discover the scam and announced on the same day that PS4 prices would not be matched "due to fraud".
The world's largest retailer told CNBC: "We can’t tolerate fraud or attempts to trick our cashiers."
"This kind of activity is unfair to the millions of customers who count on us every day for honest value."
