Water gushes from rooftop water tank at Yishun HDB, soaking residents' laundry

Residents said the "shower" lasted for nearly an hour.

The rooftop water tank at a Yishun HDB block is said to have leaked for nearly an hour, sending water gushing down the side of the block and drenching residents' laundry.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred on Sept 21 around 11am at Block 242 Yishun Ring Road.

A reader who alerted the paper said the tank appeared to have sprung a sudden leak that lasted nearly an hour. Some residents who had not collected their laundry found their clothes completely soaked.

By the time Shin Min reporters arrived at about 1pm, the flow had stopped. Town council staff were seen at the block but declined to comment, only identifying themselves as council employees.

Water splashed into residents' homes

Videos circulating online showed torrents of water gushing from several rooftop drainage outlets, making it appear as though it was raining.

A resident on the eighth floor, who only wished to be known as Mr Lim, 46, said a "huge stream of water" suddenly poured down and soaked his clothes. Some even splashed into his home, forcing him to quickly shut the windows.

"I've lived here for more than 20 years, and this is the first time I've seen this happen," said Mr Lim.

Another resident, who only wished to be known as Mr Lim, 60, described the sight as "spectacular", noting that many people went down to snap photos.

He said the water drenched residents' laundry and even flowed into some homes. "When the town council staff arrived, the rooftop was still leaking," he said.
