Weird trend of athletes drinking breast milk
Breast milk is the new energy drink for some athletes in the US.
One athlete told NYmag.com that many guys he's met at different gyms drink the stuff.
“It gives me incredible energy I don’t get from other food and drinks," said Anthony. “I don’t believe in steroids or other energy supplements, none of that garbage."
He buys it online for US$2.50 (S$3.10) for 28ml from websites such as Only The Breast and Human Milk 4 Human Babies.
On Only The Breast, there are 199 listings for "Willing To Sell To Men" and 40 listings for "Men Buying Breast Milk".
Anthony prefers not to tell others about it because being “a thirty-something-year-old man drinking breast milk makes me sound weird".
Yes, Anthony, it does.
Non-athletes are apparently drinking breast milk for health reasons.
One man told NYmag.com that he believes it has kept him from falling ill for many years.
Another man said he started drinking it when he was going through chemotherapy three years ago to help with the nausea. He has been drinking it ever since.
On cancer patients drinking breast milk, an Oxford pharmacology professor and cancer specialist told The Telegraph: "This is quite bizarre, completely anecdotal and probably complete bunkum."
We're inclined to agree.
Here are some of the listings under "Men Buying Breast Milk" on Only The Breast.
