Woman accused of ill-treating three children at MOE kindergarten in one day

A woman allegedly ill-treated three five-year-old children at a Ministry of Education kindergarten in July 2024.

On Sept 11, the 34-year-old Singaporean, who was then working for an unnamed external vendor, was charged with three counts of inflicting unnecessary physical pain and suffering to the children.

Details about her and the kindergarten's location cannot be disclosed due to a gag order.

On July 25, 2024, she allegedly pulled one of the children by his arm and shoved him towards a wall, causing him to fall.

She is also accused of performing similar acts of abuse against a second boy that day, and of ill-treating a little girl, by first making her eat her meal while standing and by shoving her behind a wall.

She is expected to plead guilty on Oct 28.

Several former pre-school teachers were dealt with in court in recent months for ill-treating children in unrelated cases.

One of them, Alamelu Paramaguru, 57, was sentenced to four days' jail in August after she pleaded guilty to ill-treating a four-year-old girl.

She had forcefully kicked and bruised the child's shin in April 2024.

A second offender, Saiidah Kamarudin, 34, was sentenced to nine months and two weeks' jail on July 28 for tripping a 20-month-old girl four times in November 2023.

Her actions caused the child to fall on her face in one instance, causing a nose bleed.
