Woman swims to hospital to give birth
A pregnant woman swam through a river from her village to a hospital in Bangalore, India, where she gave birth to a baby boy, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Ms Yellavva Balappa Gaddige’s efforts brought widespread attention to the “water village” of Neelakantarayanagadde, which was cut off from the outside world after water was released from the Basava Sagara reservoir in the southern state of Karnataka.
According to the paper, she swam for two hours before reaching the hospital, where she gave birth.
Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, her cousin Mr Jattappa said the woman had to be operated upon.
He said the newborn was healthy and weighed 4kg.
