A woman's middle finger was allegedly slashed and almost severed during an argument in the evening of April 16.

The incident happened at about 7pm in front of a shophouse between Neil Road and Spottiswoode Park Road at Tanjong Pagar.

A large bloodstain extending to about 30m was found on the road, and a blood-stained white piece of clothing was also found in a dustbin not far off.

An employee from a store nearby told Shin Min Daily News that she saw a long-haired woman in her 30s covered in blood and standing on the side of the road.

A man was also said to be standing beside her, urging her to sit down.

Three women later boarded a truck and the injured woman tried to get on, but she was stopped by the man.

"From what I saw, I think they're tourists," the female employee told the Chinese daily.

An employee at a nearby Indian restaurant, who preferred to remain anonymous, said he heard that a fight had taken place.

The woman reportedly trudged towards the adjacent Singapore General Hospital after attempting to buy plasters at a convenience store.

A convenience store clerk told reporters that she was sorting out goods when she noticed the woman who was bleeding, with her middle finger almost cut off.

"She didn't speak much English and kept asking me if I had any plasters for sale," she revealed.

"I saw that her injuries were too serious, so I asked her to go to the hospital."

She explained to the woman that her wound had to be disinfected, but she did not understand English and left shortly after.

The employee added that the police arrived about 10 minutes later and questioned if she had seen a suitcase outside the store before taking it away.

"I didn't notice the suitcase until the police asked me. I was shocked to see it."

The police confirm that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
