17-girlfriend "Romeo" charged with fraud
It was a horrible revelation for 17 women who turned up at a China hospital last month, each worried about their boyfriend.
No, it wasn't bad news on the medical front.
Instead, these women found out they were dating the same man, surnamed Yuan.
Chinese media dubbed him the Chinese Romeo, after a traffic accident left him with minor injuries and outed him as a cheat.
South Morning China Post and Daily Mail reported yesterday (May 19) that Yuan, from Hunan province, has been placed under criminal detention for fraud.
His girlfriends have since banded together by setting up a group chat called "revenge alliance".
The extent of his deception came out only when they spoke extensively about their individual relationships with Yuan - and realised he had asked for large sums of money from some of them.
He even has a son with one woman.
Another revealed she had supported Yuan financially for nine years.
After news of his arrest broke , the women changed the name of their group chat to "Angels" and are looking to move on with their lives.
This is what some of Yuan's ex-girlfriends said about him:
From Xiao Li:
"I've been with him for a year and a half. (After hearing he'd been in an accident]) I cried so hard I didn't have any tears left.
"I was really worried when I heard that he was in hospital. But when I started seeing more and more beautiful girls show up, I couldn't cry any more."
Wang Fang said:
"We've already had a son together. What can I do now?
"I don't love him any more, but I do love my son."
Xiao Ting said that she had already started planning for their wedding as she felt that Yuan was her Mr Right.
But it turned out he had been promising wedding plans with not just Xiao Ting but several other women too.
