Bomb explodes at bank ATM in Malacca
Robbers using homemade bombs set off an explosion in Malacca early Tuesday morning.
The bomb damaged the ATM kiosk of a bank in Ayer Keroh.
Three masked men in a luxury car were spotted placing two homemade devices at the kiosk at about 2am, Star Online reported.
One of the bombs later went off, blowing apart the machine.
No one was injured in the explosion.
The police bomb squad removed the other explosive device at 9.50am.
Malacca police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Chuah Ghee Lye said three masked men were seen in the bank's CCTV footage acting suspiciously.
The actions of the masked men - and the fact that this bomb caused more damage to the machine than other attempts - have led police to believe that there was some expertise involved.
New Straits Times reported that a sum of money had been taken from the machine but the amount had yet to be verified by the bank manager.
He added that the total losses are still being assessed.
