Couple & 7-month-old baby killed by speeding car in KL
A family of three, including a seventh-month-old baby, was killed in an accident along Kuala Lumpur's DUKE Highway early Saturday morning (May 2).
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport they were in overturned after it was rammed by a speeding car, reports The Star.
The impact of the crash led to Fairuz Nizam Husain, 35, his wife Nova Safitri Azhari, 27, and their baby daughter Nur Firuza Annisa being thrown out of the vehicle.
The family were on their way home to Gombak from a wedding they had attended in Putrajaya.
"The victims' vehicle overturned a few times," said Kuala Lumpur staff officer for Traffic Investigation and Regulation Deputy Supt Markandan Subramaniam.
He said investigations revealed the car was rammed from behind by a Perodua Myvi.
"The driver then lost control of his Pajero before swerving to the left lane and crashing into another Myvi," said DSP Subramaniam.
“The driver died on the spot while his wife and daughter died at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital during treatment."
Woman arrested
Police arrested a 35-year-old woman who is believed to be the driver of the car which crashed into the Pajero.
They are also looking for another Perodua Myvi, which is believed to have been racing with four others at the time of the accident.
According to the Malay Mail Online, a Facebook post claims the accident was the result of an illegal street race involving six Myvis.
DSP Subramaniam said the woman was arrested while seeking treatment for a bruised lip at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
A Twitter user has uploaded what he claims is CCTV footage from a tollbooth showing the speeding Myvis on the night of the accident.
The couple leave behind two daughters, seven-year-old Nur Firuza Amira, and three-year-old Nur Firuza Akila. It is unclear where the daughters were at the time of the accident.
