Jack, 7, empties savings to donate to vandalised mosque

This article is more than 12 months old

This seven-year-old boy from Texas has done his bit for racial harmony.

Jack Swanson donated his entire savings  to their neighbourhood mosque, when it was vandalised, reported KXAN News.

Members of the Islamic Center of Pflugerville (ICP) arrived at the mosque for morning prayers last Monday (Nov 16) to find the place in a total mess.

An ICP board member, Faisal Naeem, said that it was shocking as they never had any problems in the last three years that they've rented the space.

Pflugerville Police said they're investigating the incident as a hate crime.

Upon hearing the news, little Jack and his mother, Laura Swanson, wanted to stop by to help clean the mess.

But it was already cleaned up by the time they arrived.

Kindness

Determined to help, the little boy emptied his savings and gave the centre a US$20 (S$28) donation as an act of kindness. Mrs Swanson said she wanted to use this as a teaching moment for her son.

Said Mr Naeem, who has a son around Jack's age: “It’s 20 bucks, but coming from Jack collecting his pennies it’s worth 20 million bucks to me and to our community.

“This gives me hope because this means it’s not one versus the other.”

Little Jack's kind act has received universal praise.
