A Malaysian man who swindled around 20 women of their money and jewellery was arrested last Tuesday (June 30).

The 34-year-old man is believed to be involved in 20 fraud cases committed over two years involving a total of about RM155,000 (S$55,000).

The victims were women aged between 28 and 38.

Brickfields police chief Sharul Osman Mansor said at a press conference on Monday (July 6): "Each time, the victim would leave her bag in the car while both of them entered the hotel (to meet the 'relative').

"The suspect would then ask for the victim's phone to call his relative claiming his phone was out of battery. He would then run away."

The women only realised the man had gone missing after waiting for a few hours, said the police chief.

The suspect, a father-of-three, was arrested on June 30 at about 8pm at Taman Cahaya Alam in Shah Alam.

He has admitted to being involved in 19 cases, police said.

The man, who is being investigated for fraud and theft, will be remanded until Saturday (July 11).
