Newborn baby abandoned in plastic bag

This article is more than 12 months old

A newborn girl was found abandoned in a plastic bag in the residential area of Desa Latania in Shah Alam on Saturday morning (Aug 15).

A passerby found her at about 10am, reported New Straits Times, and called the police.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said police rushed to the scene and found the baby with her umbilical cord still intact, reported The Star.

"No note was left where she was found," he said.

The baby was taken to Hospital Klang.

Police are looking for the baby's parents.

This is the second reported case in the area in just over a week - on Aug 7, a baby girl was left on a sidewalk in another Shah Alam neighbourhood.

That baby was believed to be a week old when it was abandoned, said OCPD Asst Comm Shafien.

She was found in a box wrapped with cloth by a clerk who works in a clinic in the area.

Police are still looking for the parents of the baby.
