Poverty forces grandma to put grandchildren up for sale
A woman put her two grandchildren up for sale when she could not afford to raise them, Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported.
The 50-something woman was found offering her four-year-old grandson for about 62,000 yuan (S$13,000) and six-year-old granddaughter for about 30,000 yuan at a roadside in Heilongjiang, China, recently.
Her action prompted a television station to lodge a police report.
The woman told the police that she could not afford to raise the grandchildren due to poverty.
It was learnt that the woman had sold her land to pay medical fees for her granddaughter, who is suffering from heart disease.
The grandchildren had been cared for by the woman since their parents divorced two years ago.
The woman was allowed to go home after being lectured by the police.
