A security guard ran amok in a bank in Taman Molek in Johor Baru, allegedly killing an officer and seriously injuring another on Friday (April 17).

It is learnt that the suspect was believed to have had an argument with one of the bank officers before the incident, which happened at around 3.30pm at the first floor of the three-storey building.

Out of rage, he slashed a female bank officer with a knife and stabbed a 33-year-old male officer on his face and neck, causing the victim to bleed to death.

A witness, who only wanted to be identified as Wong, 45, said he was at the ground floor of the bank with his daughter.

He told The Star: “I wanted to change my daughter’s ATM card when we heard commotion from the top floor.

"Suddenly, we heard someone screaming and customers running out of the bank when the guard came out holding a blood-tainted knife.”

Ran out of the bank

Mr Wong added he and his daughter ran out of the bank fearing for their safety together with other customers and bank employees.

Seri Alam Superintendent Abdul Samad Salleh said police were notified about the incident at about 3.50pm, and quickly deployed a team to the crime scene.

He added that during the time, two security guards including the suspect, were on duty.

One of them was on duty at the ground floor, while the suspect was stationed at the first floor.

Supt Abdul Samad said the suspect, in his ‘40s, has been detained and the knife recovered from him.
