Woman who had a baby with underage boy jailed 6 years

This article is more than 12 months old

An Australian woman who had sex regularly with her daughter's 12-year-old boyfriend and even went on to have his baby was jailed for six years on Monday (July 27).

The mother-of-three started driving her daughter and the boy to school in 2011. He was 11 at that time.

The woman was having marital problems and started developing feelings for the child, who was having trouble at school.

She started a relationship with him, and the pair had unprotected sex. She was 36. He was 12.

Pregnant

It was the boy's first sexual experience and the abuse went on for two years.

The woman separated from her husband in January 2013, and became pregnant with the boy's child later in the year.

The boy's mother reportedly visited the woman in hospital while she was pregnant to show her support without knowing that her son was the father of the baby, reported ABC News.

The woman gave birth to a girl in May last year when the boy was 14. She cannot be named to protect the boy and the baby’s identity.

When the boy’s parents found out about the relationship, they confronted the woman and reported her to police. A DNA test confirmed he was the baby’s father.

Weekly prison visits

"You failed to recognise that your feelings for the boy were completely inappropriate," Judge Jane Patrick said. "You commenced and continued an abusive sexual relationship."

The judge said the boy clearly loved his daughter, but was struggling with fatherhood, reported The Age.

"You made (his adolescence) much more difficult for this child," said the judge.

The woman was jailed for six years after pleading guilty to the persistent sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16.

The Age reported that the baby, who is being cared for by the boy and his mother, will be taken by the Department of Human Services to visit the woman weekly in prison.
