Indian police have arrested a lawyer who took upskirt videos of women using a camera attached to his shoe.

According to the BBC, the 34-year-old man was observed getting up close to several women wearing skirts and sliding his right foot under them by a shop manager working at a mall in Delhi.

The suspect tried to flee when confronted but was detained by security guards, who uncovered the hidden camera containing 12 video clips.

The Press Trust of India reported that the man revealed to police that he picked up the idea from several websites and bought his spy camera from an online dealer.

Police also seized his mobile phone and laptop in order to determine if the photos and videos he had obtained were for his personal consumption or distributed online.

He was later freed on bail.

Over here in Singapore, similar incidents – which are classified as insulting a woman's modesty – have been on the rise.

In July, the Singapore Police Force told The New Paper that the number of insulting of modesty cases from 2012 to 2014 were 621, 571 and 629 respectively, in stark contrast to 28 reported upskirt cases in 2004.
