A US woman was locked up in a crate for close to four months.

She later escaped, only to be hunted down by her captor and killed.

On Thursday (May 29), police released photos of the tiny wooden box Ms Sandra Sutton had been forced to stay in from January to April.

It is 2.54m long, 1.22m wide and 1.32m tall.

Ms Sutton's ex-boyfriend, James Horn, 47, had kept her locked up in the box in his home.

The 46-year-old woman said he only let her out when he wanted to have sex with her.

She managed to escape the hell hole on April 30.

Ms Sutton told police Horn had held her hostage. She then moved from the city of Sedalia to the city of Clintonto stay with her relatives. Both cities are in the state of Missouri.

But Horn, a former Marine, managed to evade police and track her down.

On May 21, he killed Ms Sutton and her 17-year-old son Zachary in their relative's home.

A manhunt was launched and Horn was found and shot dead two days later.

Horn had previously been jailed for kidnapping and raping an ex-girlfriend in 1992 and kidnapping and raping his ex-wife in 1996.
