A police outrider was injured after his motorcycle was hit by a car at a traffic light junction in Miri, Sarawak, on Tuesday.

Lance Corporal Mohd Nur Iman Ngarif, 24, sustained injuries on his right shoulder and body as well as his mouth in the incident, the New Straits Times reported.

Lance Cpl Nur Iman was escorting a convoy of officials for the ongoing 18th Malaysian Games (Sukma) when the accident occurred.

Sarawak State Traffic Division Officer-in-charge Deputy Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu said Lance Cpl Nur Iman was directing traffic at the junction to make way for the convoy when he was hit by a Toyota Avanza.

Said DSP Alexson: "The traffic policeman was stopping other vehicles to ensure smooth passage for the Sukma convoy.

"But the driver of the Avanza did not heed the order and proceeded instead, but ended up crashing into our man."

The police officer is in stable condition.
